This man initially came into my studio for a family shoot. I always like to chat with clients and find our their stories, which helps to capture the very best portraits of people.

He told me about his passion for surfing, and was planning on going out for a session after the shoot.
So as we were wrapping up i got him to bring his board out of the car and this happened.
I entered into into the appas (australian Professional Photography Awards) and received a silver.

I really like this picture and the story behind it. I like how it doesn't look set up, it's just him with a board and that's what makes it beautiful.

Ah this is one of your award winners!
I've been watching a lot of youtube videos about portrait photography lately.
They all have stories about people coming in for what they think a portrait is meant to be. Dressed up, very serious. But then the photographer will capture them in a relaxed moment and that's the picture they end up loving because it's the REAL person. This looks like the real him.
